The Unique R. Hanauer Process

R. Hanauer is proud to serve its customers with the best quality bow ties and neckties - at the best prices possible. Each individual R. Hanauer bow tie is handmade, to order, by a talented team member in our shop in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

The specific types of silk, cotton, linen, and wool fabrics for our products are always carefully selected by our father-and-son team, Randy and Randall Hanauer.

We feature English and Italian silk from renowned international mills in our collections, and make the bow ties with American craftsmanship and attention to detail.

After you place your order, your bow ties will be cut by hand on the table. As opposed to the straight of grain, our fabric is cut on a bias to produce the best-tying bow tie on the market. Cutting on the bias allows the pattern to be cut out at a 45-degree angle to produce the gentle stretch of the fabric for ease of tying. A bias-cut lining is in each and every one of our bow ties to ensure that the structure and shape always remains in its best condition.

Our Story

In 1985, Randy Hanauer created the concept and early foundation for R. Hanauer Bow Ties on his dining room table. The lack of representation through white pocket squares inspired him to fill the gap in men’s fashion. Now, Randy and his son Randall collectively complete the artistic and creative vision of the family-owned company. Currently, over 330 high-end stores across the United States carry R. Hanauer products. We take immense pride in the fact all of our bow ties and cummerbund sets are still handmade out of our workshop in Fort Mill, South Carolina. We strongly believe in hand-making all of our menswear with high attention to detail and continuing to uphold our legacy of creating fine American-made bow ties, cummerbund sets and neckties.
